What Happened to NetSuite's Event Subscriber Script Type

Oracle documented Event Subscriber scripts in August 2026 and pulled the pages by late September. The timeline, the Platform Events error, and what to use now.

In August 2026 Oracle documented a new SuiteScript 2.1 script type called Event Subscriber. By late September the documentation was gone from the NetSuite Help Center, and the pages now return 404. Oracle has not said why.

This is the timeline we could reconstruct from archived copies of the Help Center and from developers who tried to deploy it. Where we do not know something, we say so.

The short version

  • Event Subscriber was real. Oracle published a full documentation set for it in August 2026: the script type, a reference, code samples, the handle(options) entry point and an SDF object called eventsubscriber.
  • Developers who tried it in 2026.2 accounts hit an account-level gate: Platform Events are not enabled for this account.
  • Between August 19 and September 24, 2026 the whole section was removed from the Help Center table of contents. The August Minor Release notes no longer mention it either.
  • If you were planning an architecture around it, do not. Keep that logic in User Event and Map/Reduce scripts until Oracle documents the feature again.

What Oracle documented

The archived table of contents from August 19 lists these pages:

SuiteScript 2.1 Event Subscriber Script Reference article_9100524953 404

Event Subscriber Scripts as XML Definitions article_47180719123 404
eventsubscriber (SDF object) article_7110236124 404

The Wayback Machine saved the table of contents, not the pages themselves. So the titles and IDs are on record, but the text of the pages is not.

Our own write-up from August describes the feature as those pages documented it: a script that runs after a supported record event completes, receives the record type and ID in handle(options), and is deployed through an SDF eventsubscriber object rather than a classic script deployment.

The "Platform Events" gate

The most concrete evidence of what went wrong comes from the developers who tried it.

The SDF error names an account feature, Platform Events, that nobody in the thread could find in Enable Features. Creating the script directly in the UI failed differently: NetSuite rejected the file with SuiteScript 2.1 entry point scripts must implement one script type function, which is what you get when the account does not recognise the script type at all.

That pattern fits a feature that was documented ahead of being switched on for customer accounts. It does not prove it. A developer in the same thread mentions that one person did get it working by mid-September, so the gate may have been opened for some accounts. We could not see the details of that case.

What we do not know

  • Why Oracle removed the documentation. There is no announcement, release note or known-issue entry that we could find.
  • Whether the feature is postponed to a later release, renamed, or dropped.
  • Whether "Platform Events" is a separate feature that has to ship first.
  • What Oracle answered on case #7063172.

If you have an answer to any of these from Oracle Support or your account team, it would settle the question better than any archive.

What to do if you were planning around it

Nothing that has been written for Event Subscriber can be deployed today, so the practical answer is the architecture it was meant to replace:

  • Keep afterSubmit in a User Event script small. Validate, write a queue record or set a status field, and return.
  • Do the slow work, such as HTTP calls, related record updates and notifications, in a Map/Reduce or Scheduled script that reads that queue. That gives you retries, a place to record failures, and a script you can rerun.
  • Write the handler logic as a plain module that takes a record type and an ID. If Event Subscriber comes back with the handle(options) shape Oracle documented in August, moving that logic over is a thin wrapper rather than a rewrite.

We will update this page if the documentation returns.
